Description

MuleSoft Developer (Mid/Junior-Level)

HYBRID: NYC, in office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Remote Monday and Friday only.

  • We are seeking a MuleSoft Developer to support the design, development, and delivery of enterprise integrations and APIs using the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
  • The ideal candidate has experience with API led connectivity, secure API design, and modern integration patterns, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced Agile environment.

Day-to-Day (Agile Delivery Workflow)

In an Agile workstream, the MuleSoft Developer participates across the full integration lifecycle. Typical daily activities include:

  • Reviewing intake notes, user stories, and acceptance criteria provided by Product Owners or Business Analysts.
  • Collaborating with the integration architect, lead developer, and business stakeholders to refine requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications.
  • Participating in design sessions to help shape the API/interface contracts (RAML), data mappings, integration flows, and sequence diagrams.
  • Receiving finalized technical designs and API specifications and building MuleSoft integrations based on those artifacts.
  • Developing, unit testing, and validating Mule applications within the sprint, ensuring adherence to established integration patterns and development standards.
  • Attending Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint demos, retrospectives).
  • Supporting QA during integration and system testing by troubleshooting defects and providing clarifications.
  • Assisting with deployment activities across environments and ensuring smooth handoff to support teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain MuleSoft integrations and APIs using Anypoint Studio and the Anypoint Platform.
  • Build and maintain RAML specifications for APIs following API led connectivity principles (System/API/Experience layers).
  • Implement secure API designs leveraging OAuth 2.0, TLS/mTLS, client ID enforcement, and MuleSoft security best practices.
  • Integrate with REST and SOAP services, SaaS applications, databases, and legacy systems.
  • Work with messaging platforms and implement asynchronous/event driven patterns using JMS, Anypoint MQ, Kafka, or similar technologies.
  • Apply MuleSoft integration patterns, including transformation, routing, orchestration, and standardized error handling frameworks.
  • Work with JSON, XML, CSV, and other data formats; implement DataWeave transformations.
  • Configure and manage APIs in Anypoint API Manager, including applying governance and security policies.
  • Perform unit testing (e.g., MUnit), debugging, and performance tuning for Mule applications.
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement of integration standards.
  • Maintain thorough technical documentation for integrations, API specifications, and deployment processes.
  • Stay current with MuleSoft feature updates, new connectors, platform capabilities, and industry integration trends.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of software development experience.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
  • Strong experience designing APIs and building RAML specifications.
  • Experience working in an Agile (Scrum or SAFe) environment.
  • Solid understanding of API security, governance, and policy enforcement.
  • Experience with asynchronous processing, message queues, and event-driven integration.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise integration patterns (EIPs) and best practices.
  • Experience with REST/SOAP services, JSON, XML, and DataWeave transformations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MuleSoft Certified Developer – Level 1 (MCD).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with logging/monitoring tools (CloudHub logs, Splunk, Datadog, AppDynamics, etc.).
