Responsibilities:

  • The Research Technician will support the EDI Product Development team, based in Charlotte, NC, to contribute to the overall success of the Dispersions business by developing new products in an industrial laboratory setting.
  • The Dispersions business of Client develops, produces, and markets a range of high-quality dispersions for a variety of industries, including coatings and paints, printing and packaging products, construction chemicals, adhesives, fiber bonding, nonwovens, and paper manufacturing.
  • The Research Technician will work in an industrial laboratory and be responsible for operating the laboratory equipment to create quality prototype samples in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • This position will have the primary responsibility of supporting new product development in the Polymerization Laboratory.
  • The job requires operating laboratory-scale emulsion polymerization reactors. It involves performing laboratory-scale synthesis according to recipes provided by scientists in the product development group.
  • The technician will also ensure that the laboratory equipment and work environment remain operational, uncluttered, and safe.

   

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related sciences OR Associate's degree plus 6 months to 1 year of relevant lab experience OR High school diploma and 1 year of relevant experience required.

Experience:

 

  • Polymer synthesis, viscometers, particle size analyzers, rheometers, and other instruments.
  • Qualified individuals will be capable of working in a lab for much of the day with some physical activity required.
  • Experience handling hazardous chemicals, mechanical equipment, or computerized systems.

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Capable of working in a structured environment where activities are governed by written procedures, yet flexible enough to work in an environment of scientific experimentation.
  • Effectively communicate using oral and written skills (Microsoft Office products) with scientists, peers, and management to ensure information is exchanged at all levels.
  • Have a strong sense of work ethic and self-motivation with high standards of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail. Must operate with a high sense of urgency.
  • Able to work comfortably in a team environment and effectively on an individual basis, possessing good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills and be comfortable with email, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Controls hardware and software experience preferred.
  • Maintaining and operating testing equipment and instruments.
  • Operating laboratory-scale emulsion polymerization reactors.
  • Measuring physical properties of specimens using viscometers, particle size analyzers, rheometers, and other instruments.
  • Timely data entry, updating, and closing projects in a database.
