Description
Fully Onsite
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Drafter 3 to lead and document engineering changes across the product lifecycle, with a primary focus on design-to-order equipment—particularly data center chillers. This role is critical in driving accuracy and traceability in mechanical design documentation, ensuring engineering change implementations are clearly reflected in CAD models, BOMs, and associated systems.
You will lead the full change management process using PLM tools (ideally Windchill) and contribute to high-impact design verification activities, such as pressure-testing and structural calculations (e.g., beam lengths). A successful candidate will have strong command of CREO and SolidWorks, a hands-on mechanical fabrication background (including welding), and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams such as customer service and field engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Drive and execute engineering changes using PLM systems (preferably Windchill) or other configuration management tools.
-
Implement design revisions in CAD models and update associated Bills of Materials (BOMs).
-
Support structural analysis by calculating proper beam lengths and assist in pressure testing.
-
Prepare and revise detailed mechanical design drawings, schematics, and assembly documentation.
-
Interpret customer-specific requirements to generate fit-for-purpose mechanical layouts.
-
Collaborate with customer service and engineering teams to resolve design-related issues or inquiries.
-
Lead the review and verification of part fit, form, and function during design iterations.
-
Ensure documentation accuracy by maintaining drawing standards, revision history, and design notes.
-
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to drafting standards, tooling, and documentation workflows.
Required Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or GED required; an Associate’s or Technical Degree in Mechanical Design or a related field is a plus.
-
5–7 years of relevant experience in mechanical drafting or design.
-
Strong expertise in CREO and SolidWorks (2D and 3D drafting/modeling).
-
Demonstrated experience with PLM tools (Windchill preferred) and ERP systems for BOM control.
-
Hands-on familiarity with welding practices and design-to-order equipment, particularly in HVAC or data center chiller systems.
-
Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and mechanical tolerancing.
-
Analytical mindset with the ability to calculate design dimensions and interpret structural/mechanical requirements.
-
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interface across engineering, operations, and service teams.
Key Competencies:
-
Attention to detail and commitment to quality
-
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
-
Clear and concise written and verbal communication
-
Ability to manage multiple design change requests simultaneously
-
Proactive team player with leadership potential
